Unfortunately, the 3.0 CRD diesel engine is not yet available in the U.S. For now, all we can do is read this review in Yahoo!'s UK site praising the features of this remarkable engine:
"The 3. 0-litre CRD diesel powerplant pops up all over the Chrysler, Jeep and Mercedes-Benz ranges and with good reason. Its one of the most impressive diesel engines money can buy. Its 218bhp output is capable of making a Mercedes C-Class feel indecently quick but when tasked with hauling the rather weightier Commander body about, it instead relies on its 510Nm of torque. This is more than even the Commanders range-topping V8 Hemi engine can manage. On the road it equates to a sprint to 60mph in 8.7 seconds and a top speed of 120mph. Economy is very respectable at 30.9mpg and emissions are rated at 284g/km. When it comes to serious off-roading, this is probably the engine to plump for. "
I hope that DaimlerChrysler is seriously considering the possibility of outfitting U.S. Jeep Commanders with this engine soon.

Something seriously wrong with the big three ! Install the diesel for the US and take back the market share from the imports, its really that simple. 30.9 mpg in a full sized SUV ? Who needs a hybrid ????
I would buy a Commander right now if it had a 3.0L MB diesel in it.
What are they waiting for another bailout by the taxpayers when they hit rough financial times?
Take out the useless third row seat and put a 27 gal. fuel tank in it.
Then add the 3.0 CRD and you will have buyers waiting in line to aquire one.
You must not have kids. Take out that third row, and you've lost a buyer (in fact, you've lost a whole pool of buyers). If you don't want the 3rd row, then get the friggin GCherokee!
I tire of the silly GREEN movement. Here's a prime example. This gets nearly the economy of a smart car, can seat way more, can tow, can go in the snow. Oh, and it has better emissions than most cars out there.
The reason they don't sell them here? Simple, GREENies are snobs about diesels. Ford has a 65mpg diesel car....in Europe but not here for the exact same reason!
Of course, green cars can do so much compared to the regular ones. But the choice is still yours if your going for these babies, or the green and electric type.
It's not too late to buy one isn't it? I drove my cousin's and it felt really great.
High performance on Jeeps is a must. With this new upgrades the Jeep is highly powerful. Still a nice vehicle to buy lots of advantages on it.
